Harvard Athletic Association
Overview of HAA
The Harvard Athletic Association (HAA) is a non-profit organization, incorporated in the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Its purpose is to promote athletic programs and activities
for the enjoyment and benefit of Harvard residents and/or students in Harvard schools. While
primarily for the youth of Harvard, a number of activities are sponsored for adults as well. Youth
programs attempt to encourage broad participation, promote fair play, develop skills and
encourage sportsmanship and teamwork. Healthy competition, appropriate to age and skill
levels, is fostered.
The Harvard Athletic Association is made up primarily of town volunteers, who donate their
time and talents as organizers, group coordinators, and coaches, referees, umpires and
advisors.
HAA provides a foundation for most youth sports in Harvard and works closely with the town’s
Park and Recreation Department to ensure the safety and adequacy of playing fields
throughout the town.

HAA also works closely with the Bromfield School Athletic Department to
involve, whenever possible, Bromfield High School teachers and students as
coaches, assistants, umpires and referees. Older students often act as role
models and mentors to younger participants in HAA programs. HAA supports
and cooperates with a number of athletic booster clubs within the Bromfield
School.
